DEWAR, Donald
November 16, 1916 - November 27, 2014
After 97 years of very active living, Don passed
away just after his 98th birthday. He was born in Ontario but raised on a farm
near Hazlet, Sask. He taught school for four years then joined the airforce and
was attached to the R.A.F. from 1941-1945.
He returned to UBC and got his degree in
electrical engineering.
He then joined Transport Canada
and worked his way up to the Regional Director of Air Services for western
Canada and the Northwest Territories. He was instrumental in planning the
Calgary Airport.
On retirement he volunteered to go to Sri Lanka to
help them with their Air Services. Don's hobbies included woodworking, golf,
bridge and travel.
After nearly 66 years of marriage he leaves to
mourn his loving wife Betty who was steadfast in her devotion to him during his
final illness. He leaves daughter Diane (Dr. Dave Grabke) and son Dr. Bill Dewar
(Trish). He also leaves six grandchildren of whom he took such an interest in
Lisa, Mark, Jennifer, Christie, Jill and Doug. Also left behind are the eight
great- grandchildren who delighted him so much.Thanks go to Tami Guest, Dr.
Armstrong and the Norwood and Laurier House care centres. He says his goodbyes
to his friends at Canterbury Manor. A private service will be held later.
